A man wanted for a fatal stabbing that occurred in Los Angeles County last month was arrested in San Francisco’s Mission District on Saturday, authorities said today.
Oscar Bridges, 54, was sought for the killing of 21-year-old Robert Brewer, of Texas, on Jan. 23 at a motel room in unincorporated South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The department held a news conference a week after the killing to ask for the public’s help in finding Bridges, a registered sex offender with an extensive criminal history, sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said.
San Francisco police were notified that Bridges might be in the city, and a crime flier was sent out to patrol officers in the areas he was known to frequent, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Bridges was spotted at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Mission Street, which is near 18th Street, and tried to flee but was taken into custody on suspicion of resisting arrest and for the outstanding murder warrant, Shyy said.
He will be transferred back to Los Angeles County to be booked into jail there on suspicion of murder, Nishida said.
