Long before SF set its sight on a zero-waste goal, which they are vying for by 2020, the city has been environmentally conscious. Now, yet another program is helping fight the battle against overstuffed landfills. As the Ex reports, SF garbage collection provider Recology has unveiled a new “Pay Per Setout” program that is earning eco-friendly residents discounts on their trash bills.
“Pay Per Setout” allows some city residents to choose when they’re setting out their black trash bins for pickup. For every collection day skipped, residents receive a credit towards their trash bill. Out of the nearly 3,600 homes eligible, over 28,000 credits have been issued.
The credits allow for a 10% discount on monthly bills, up to 30% per month. Recology does require that you use their waste service one week out of the four weeks, however.
It’s worth noting that Recology is looking to increase their collection fees by 21.5%. If approved, prices for standard residential services would jump up to $34.51 from their current price of $27.91.
