The Postal Service are not only back and thriving but turning heads with a slew of tour dates featuring opener Big Freedia. The queen diva of bounce has taken her twerk team across the Pacific Northwest to mixed reactions, but we’re betting Bay Area fans will be perfectly happy lettin’ Freedia come through.
A bounce show is like nothing you’ve experienced before in the club or anywhere else. The music is energetic and utterly and totally danceable. It’s a far cry from the mellow indie goodness of the Postal Service, but not an unwelcome one.
Though the Postal Service are playing two nights in a row this weekend, Friday’s show is the only one featuring Big Freedia. For a bounce-less experience, head to the Greek Theatre Saturday night to see the Divine Fits instead. Spoon frontman Britt Daniel again acts as ringleader with his latest and greatest project, touring with a mix of new material just released on a 12″ and songs from their critically acclaimed debut A Thing Called the Divine Fits. They’re more the speed of the Postal Service, but really, we think you should let off some steam and shake that ass.
