San Francisco police are trying to get in touch with the registered owner of a car that was found engulfed in flames next to the Twin Peaks Reservoir early this morning, a police spokesman said.
A black, two-door BMW apparently went off an embankment on a sharp turn near the Twin Peaks lookout point around 4 a.m. and landed on a service road near the reservoir, where it burst into flames, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Police conducted an extensive search of the area, including sending a dive team into the reservoir to check for anyone who was possibly ejected from the car, but did not find anyone, Shyy said.
Investigators later found out around 10:30 a.m. that the registered owner of the car is alive and had made contact with his family, according to Shyy.
“We now just want to be able to talk to him and see what happened,” Shyy said.
He said the car had not been reported stolen.
