If you thought with the year winding down, that there’d be less music in the city to enjoy, you’d be fantastically damn wrong. Brush off that lo-fi haze from Waxahatchee last night with a soul-brightening barrage of blues and garage rock from Black Joe Lewis at the Fillmore this Tuesday. The Austin guitarist may have left his backing band, the Honeybears, but his melodies are sweet as ever on latest endeavor, Electric Slave.
The tech-centric Bay Area may not be as receptive to Lewis’ neo-Luddite messages of our digital reliance slash addiction, but his commanding vocals and equally arresting guitar work demand a good listen and more than a bit of getting down. Fellow Austin outfit Think no Think and southern punk trio Radkey are set to open.
