Appealing Events: Tokyo Police Club at the Independent

Fresh off the heels of their first album in four years, Tokyo Police Club are taking the stage this Monday at the Independent. Their fourth LP, Forcefield, is a celebration of the contemporary riff and shows the Ontario band at their most overtly poppy. Opener “Argentina (Pts. I, II, III)” acts as both their longest and their strongest track.

They’re sure to be a treat live, as Forcefield also signifies an aesthetic shift towards the 8-bit. Inspired by their arcade-centric video for “Hot Tonight”, they’ve even got their own video game. It’s fairly easy and entirely feel good, a stark shift from TPC’s previous laments of lovelorn crushes. This is a happier group that’s ready to shake your manic Monday up.
