The San Francisco medical examiner’s office has identified a British tourist who died last week from stab wounds he suffered during a robbery as 48-year-old Paul Tam.
Tam died shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday at San Francisco General Hospital of injuries suffered in a Feb. 18 attack near Japantown.
Police said Tam was walking on Post Street near Franklin Street around 8:30 p.m. with his niece when a man and woman grabbed his bag, which contained cash, credit cards, a cellphone and the victim’s passport.
When Tam held on to the bag, the male suspect stabbed him in the head and then fled with his belongings.
Police have recovered surveillance video of the attack and released it to the public. It is available online at https://youtu.be/rQngnNOzb3Y.
The male suspect is described as a black man in his 30s or 40s with a muscular build who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He wore a dark hoodie and blue jeans, according to police.
The female suspect is described as a black woman in her late 20s who is about 5 feet 4 inches tall with long dreadlocks or braids worn in a ponytail, police said.

The San Francisco Police Officers Association has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the two suspects in Tam’s death.
