This Good Friday, April 10, is the celebration that begins the weekend-long Nun World Order Takeover: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence turn a flirty 30, and they’re kicking off the festivties with the opening night party “Breaking the Seal” at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Not to be confused with breaking the cherry, although if you did get that bit confused I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a bit. The event starts with a grand procession (and we mean GRAND), a “breaking of the seal” (it only hurts the first time), and public a veiling ceremony, sure to delight and inspire everyone who loves San Francisco’s most famous and elaborate faces — and a worthy tribute to these heroes in habits who raise funds tirelessly for orgs in need and chase away those nasty fundamentalists when they think they can spew hate in Harvey Milk Plaza. The party also features sounds by DJ Bearzbub of Charlie Horse and a cash bar.
A cash bar you say!? Count me in! It’s also the opening party for the YBCA exhibition honoring the Sisters, Under A Full Moon: 30 Years of Perpetual Indulgence (runs April 10 – June 28). Bring your sparkly kneepads and get ready for the Nun World Order. Events all weekend can be perused on The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence calendar, including Sunday’s official celebration on Easter Sunday in Dolores Park (Including the infamous Hunky Jesus contest) and everyone’s favorite raiser of the funds, Resurrection Bingo on Wednedsday the 22nd.
