Pretend these weekend picks are all dipped in green, covered in clovers, and chugging viridescent beer because St Patrick’s Day is almost upon us and that is grounds to party, (but only in green!) hence some dance-heavy music picks:
Friday: South African house duo Goldfish are anything but your typical EDM fare. The group expertly mixes their own cultural influences with live instruments and beats du jour, making for a surprisingly multifaceted show in the face of button-pushers and apathy. They hit New Orleans’ own electronic music-centric festival Buku on Saturday so consider Friday’s gig at Mezzanine a bit of a warm-up, meaning shit will get weird in the best possible way.
What: Goldfish at Mezzanine
When: Friday, March 13th; show: 9pm
Where: Mezzanine: 444 Jessie St.
Cost: $20-$25; purchase tickets here.
Saturday: Despite the name, COCKBLOCK has been delivering actual love connections and fun-filled evenings for nine whole years every second Saturday of the month and they’re celebrating appropriately with a blowout like no other. Those who’ve been with them from the beginning are most likely in their logo photo collage. Spot yourself among party-goers and get in for half off. Even if you don’t, $10 is still incredibly affordable by SF standards. DJ China G and Natalie Nuxx will be spinning tunes until the wee hours.
What: COCKBLOCK 9th anniversary party at the Rickshaw Stop
When: Saturday, March 14th; show: 9pm
Where: The Rickshaw Stop: 155 Fell St.
Cost: $10; purchase tickets at the door.
Sunday:DIY queen Metal Mother is here to rock your damn face off. Just kidding. She’ll be sending you into a cathartic trance with a type of multi-layered thrumming better reserved for a particularly intense portion of Assassin’s Creed. Be your own video game hero and cool down from all that dancing at Bottom of the Hill.
