What a mild, wonderful week that hopefully brought about enough restfulness to survive the multi-night music jaunt that is Noise Pop.
This year’s iteration features a whole host of SFAppeal-approved bands (Craft Spells, Best Coast) as well as personal favorites like No Joy and Screaming Females.
In fact, Screaming Females is one of the first bands to be kicking things off and is playing this weekend. Wanna know who else is playing and who you should go so? Check it:
Friday: Electrojam band Lotus has somehow melded the stereotypical scene of hooked-on-molly EDM fans feelin’ themselves with jam band groupies and created a cohesively chill atmosphere in which to craft their kaleidoscopic beats. They may not have the same light show as Phish but they’ve got a similar panache that’s wholly unifying. 2014’s Gilded Age saw the quintet delving deeper into the electronic and coming up with gold. Their live show only furthers that ethos.
What: Lotus at the Regency Ballroom
When: Friday, February 20; doors: 8pm, show: 9pm
Where: The Regency Ballroom: 1290 Sutter St
Cost: $22.50 in advance, $25 at the door; purchase tickets here.

Saturday: Remember all that energy you’ve been saving for Noise Pop? Now it’s time to use some — nay, maybe all — of it on Screaming Females. The trio’s permanent aesthetic is ass-kicking but their latest material feels like a Krav Maga master breaking up an illicit crime ring with just the use of fists over weaponry. Screaming Females have heightened their game and are readying Rose Mountain, their sixth LP, for February 24th, which means you may very well be hearing the songs that make up your next favorite album before it hits Amoeba. Or tragically leaks on some porn-infested Torrent site. Thanks, internet.
What: Screaming Females at the Hemlock Tavern
When: Saturday, February 21; doors: 8:30pm, show: 9pm
Where: The Hemlock Tavern: 1131 Polk St
Cost: Sold out! Unless you’re interested in Noise Pop’s crazy super fan badge thing.
Sunday: The Suffers‘ name says it all — they’re here for the feels. No other band can make me feel like cozying up with my honey, hosting a rousing bout of Match Game, and dancing with a broomstick. And that’s with a lone EP. Cozy up to Amnesia and get it in your soul, the sweet throwback jangles of choppy guitar chords hitting the rolling crescendos of a full horn section. May the Suffers give you the strength to survive the rest of Noise Pop.
What: The Suffers at Amnesia
When: Sunday, February 22; doors: , show: 8pm
Where: Amnesia: 853 Valencia St
Cost: $10; buy ’em at the door because Amnesia has no online ticket sales.
